Stargirl ***
by Jerry Spinelli
Book Type: Children, Realistic Fiction
Summary: Stargirl. From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, the hallways hum with the murmur of “Stargirl, Stargirl.” She captures Leo Borlock’s heart with just one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with just one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. At first. Then they turn on her. Stargirl is suddenly shunned for everything that makes her different, and Leo, panicked and desperate with love, urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her: normal.

My Review: This book is a short, simple, quick read. I thought it was cute, albeit sad and slightly lacking. Seriously, I like books that are under 200 pages but I always feel like something is missing. It's like the author was in a hurry to get the story out and done. It was a decent read. I don't think I would read it again... Or necessarily recommend it to anyone... But it was pretty good. An interesting look at popularity and the way that it destroys individuality and happiness if you allow it to rule your life. Don't be afraid to be with the one you love even if they're weird! Follow your heart! That is all.
