French Bread
Ingredients:- 1 1/2 T dry yeast
- 1/2 c warm water
- 1 T sugar
- 2 c very hot water
- 1/2 T (heaping) shortening
- 6 c flour (approximately)
- 2 tsp. salt
- 3 T sugar
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
- Add rest of ingredients and let rise 45 mins, punching it down every 10 minutes. (4 times)
- Roll out like you do for cinnamon rolls. Stretch and cut in half.
- Let rise 45 mins more.
- Bake on cookie sheets for 20 minutes. Lower temperature to 350 for 25 more mins.
